February 17 2010 Student Profile: Harry Laughlin I started karate at SDSMA when I was twelve years old. I soon gained interest in this martial art as I had fun whilst having lots of exercise and learning self defence.
In karate, I like Kumite (sparring) the best as it is enjoyable and it tests your skills.
When I was a Red Belt I was picked to be a part of the clubs elite squad. I enjoy elite squad as it is a tough workout and we learn skills, techniques and moves useful for fighting.
I have competed in many competitions, winning my first trophy as a red belt and in total have won 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals and have just won at the Greater London championships.
I am now a green/blue belt and I have been working hard towards my blue belt which I will hopefully be grading for in March.
I have also made some great friends at the club and they have been very helpful in teaching me things that I am not sure about.
