January 31 2010 Student Profile: Rebecca Croly I started Korean Karate in mid October 2003 at the age of 8, and gained an interest very quickly. I worked my way through the grades, to become a 1st Dan Black Belt on the 23rd December 2007.
I like all aspects of karate, but I am mainly dedicated in the Kumite side of the sport. I have competed in various karate competitions across Britain, such as places like London, Clacton, Sheffield, Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Bristol and Birmingham, Edinburgh and Cardiff. As well as competing for SDSMA, I also represent Toyakwai at national events such as the English Championships, where I won Gold, and the Welsh Open Championships, where I also won Gold.
I was recently selected to represent the England in the national team, in July 2009, to fight in the 6th Cadet, Junior and Under 21’s World Championships in Rabat, Morocco, mid November 2009. I won my first fight 2-0 against Norway, but then lost to Serbia. I was very happy with my performance, and gained useful experience, and hope to fight for England again in the near future.
Aside from my Kumite career, I hope to gain my second Dan Black Belt in April 2010, and work towards my higher Dan grades.
