"The atmosphere in the dojo whilst being very traditional, which for me is so important, is very friendly. Something I have never known at any other club, is the instructors care about their students. If you have an injury you will receive advice on your training and if need, a physiotherapist, to help you back to full training. Also if you have not been for a week or two you will receive a phone call to see if you are ok, and this means so much in a club.
There are great opportunities to compete at a high level. It is a great feeling to take a trophy back to your club, you feel you will explode with pride, it’s so good.
S.D.S.M.A has the highest standards I have ever known, whilst making the sessions fun, they are very disciplined and have traditional values whilst learning the more technical side of karate. Emphasis is also on fitness and strength which will in turn help develop technique.
What I found very disheartening was that some clubs seem to lower their standards so students gain their grades. This is definitely not the case at Sean Doylands club. You have to work very hard to get to the standard required. But when you get awarded your grade and belt you know you have earned it, and deserve to wear that belt which makes you feel very proud to be a student at S.D.S.M.A."
